Build a portfolio site for a specific kind of freelancer — a photographer, a developer, an illustrator, whoever you pick. Real work front and centre, a clear sense of who they are, and a way to actually get in touch. Most portfolio sites are boring because the person building them plays it safe; this one shouldn't.
A personal portfolio landing page: a body of work presented with real craft, a clear statement of what the person does and for whom, and a direct path to contact. The bar is that it should not look like every other portfolio template.
